FAQ of My Rendering Process
How to Commission Work?
Please fill out the contact form below with your information and rendering request and how soon you need it. You can also email me directly at scott@scottjohnstonart.com . We can further discuss your rendering project details, estimated costs, and date of turnaround.
What Software is Used?
I utilize several graphic applications including AutoCAD, SketchUp and Photoshop. The more detailed your schematics and color specifications, the better. I prefer AutoCAD schematics, but can utilize PDF drawings if the architecture is to scale or key dimensions are given for scaling. For 3D color renderings, I will build a 3D reference model in SketchUp and color the final rendering in Photoshop. I use Photoshop because I can accurately color match swatches and materials with a SRGB color profile, which is the standard color profile used on most websites. I switched to digital years ago because color scanning watercolor paintings was problematic at best and color correcting scans became time consuming. Be aware that monitor settings effect colors. I utilize a color matched monitor specifically designed for graphic artists.
Do You Offer Revisions?
My policy on rendering revisions is if there is a simple change, like color adjustments/ swapping, window grids, roof colors, then I can make those adjustments quickly and usually without additional charges. Photoshop allows me to keep materials separated in layers. However, frequent changes can incur additional charges. If there are any notable changes to the architecture while the rendering is in the process of production, then the changes are build at my hourly rate. The same goes for architectural changes after the rendering is completed. I typically send preliminary proofs of 3D color renderings to make sure the client is happy with the view and general appearance before proceeding to the final rendering.
Turnaround Time for Projects
Turnaround time for different types of projects can vary. It also depends on my current schedule. 2 weeks lead time is typical for a standard 3D color rendering. However, the earlier you can make the request and send over the required schematics and color information, the better.
Can I Purchase Existing Artwork?
I typically work on a commission basis and therefore rarely have artwork available for sale.
